Setting our artistic sails

Not Dead Yet

Journal Entry: Sat Oct 20, 2007, 11:18 AM
Just wanted to let folks know, we're not dead yet! It's been hard to dive back in. My time has been very limited due to homeschooling my daughter, and I know even with Miles back in school, Sangre's still as busy as ever. I'm really not sure when we will be active again.

In my Summer Vacation journal, I did ask that no one send in any requests, so all notes have been deleted rather than try to catch up with them now, when I'm not even sure what's going on. For those who have sent in submissions, please refer to our How to Join journal. We have never, nor will we ever, accept random deviations. Not trying to be rude, but that wasn't our intention with this club. The only art you see here, will be from our contests, exchanges, some stock, or our spotlight artists.

If anyone has any ideas on how to get us back on track, please send them to me on my personal account over at :icondesignsbyeve: please. I'll try to keep an eye over here better, but sometimes it's just hard to keep up with everything else going on ;)

Summer Vacation

Journal Entry: Mon Jun 11, 2007, 8:16 AM
A'vast ye maties!

Summer is indeed upon us! Both Sangre and I have little ones, as most of you probably know. As busy as we are when they are in school, sometimes it's even worse when they aren't. So with that in mind, we're going to take our own vacation from Tradewinds for the Summer. Don't worry, tho! We'll be back in the Fall with either an exchange or contest. I haven't decided yet which concept works best with the idea I have in mind.

Everyone have a great Summer, and we'll see you in the Fall! :bye:

PS. We will most likely not be checking here very often over the next couple months, so please send any notes to us at our personal accounts. We will not be taking new members over the Summer, so please wait until we are back to send in your Enter notes. :pirate:

Journal Entry: Tue May 1, 2007, 6:57 AM
A'vast ye maties!

Every month here at TW3D we will be featuring one of our members' amazing artwork. Three images will be posted here in the journal, with a brief Q & A so that you may find out a bit more about them as a person as well as an artist.

At the end of the month, we will post a poll for the members to choose their favorite of the three art pieces, and the winner will be posted in the TW3D Gallery. Of the remaining images, the artist will be allowed to choose and that image will be added also!

It is our great honor to present our May 2007

Who or what inspires you?
My friends help me a lot. Its usually their projects that get my gears turning and wanting to make something. I love making gifts for them, so its a good motivator ;) Games help too. I love making character portraits!
*

How did you get involved in digital art?
Wow. Such a simple question is hard to pinpoint. Short answer, I suck at drawing. I love art. So I got into using Poser.

I started dabbling in photoshop making sigs back when I was 11. I met a girl online who used Bryce to make art. So i ran out and bought it ( Version 3! ), it was a few years after that I finally got Poser 4. I didn't get serious into making 3d Art until 2005 though. oh god, its almost been 2 solid years.
*

What software do you use?
Wee Poser & Photoshop mostly, but I've been known to use Cinema4D.
*
What are your artistic goals?
Goals. hm. I dont think I really have goals. I just want to improve. Its nice people like to pay me for my time in making them art. Its mainly a hobby i profit from on occasion though. So yeah, I guess my goals are just to make pretty pictures for my friends / family, and help my friends who want to make pretty pictures too ;)
*
How long does an average piece take you?
Well I'd like to say it takes me a few hours. But its been quite awhile since I've rendered something and liked it the first time. Even the basic pinup shots take me forever to be happy with lighting, shadows, camera angle, textures, hair... And thats before I even get it into photoshop for cleanup. so I usually start on something, spend 8 hours on it, sometimes sleep on it, wake up with fresh eyes. More complicated scenes, with a lot more postwork I can easily spend 3-4 days on. But usually if I don't finish it in a couple days, It doesn't get finished. :dohtwo:
*
Do you have any advice you would like to pass on?
Don't be rude to the drive-thru guys, or they'll spit in your food :/

Ok really though. Don't get discouraged if you're not happy with how your art is going. It just takes patience and practice to get better. You can only move forward, unless you get lazy, then you don't move at all ;)
